2025 Can-Am Canyon Test Ride: The Three-Wheeler That Breaks the Rules

I couldn’t wait to get behind the handlebars of the brand-new 2025 Can-Am Canyon. I wanted to know where this three-wheeler could take me, and especially how it would compare to my various experiences with motorcycles or other similar vehicles.

Verdict? It’s not just a vehicle. It’s a new way to set out on an adventure, blending stability, technology, safety, and riding pleasure, with a truly unique feel.

A Three-Wheeler Built for Unconventional Roads (and Detours)

Can-Am has launched three versions of its three-wheeler:

  • Canyon
  • Canyon XT and Canyon Redrock.

All are designed to take you off paved roads without hesitation. Whether it’s a bumpy road, a gravel path, or a slightly bolder trail, the Canyon holds its ground thanks to its refined architecture and efficient stability system.

Choose between four riding modes:

  • Sport
  • All-Road
  • Rally or Normal.

These modes allow you to adapt the engine and suspension behaviour to your terrain of the day.

And that’s not all! The raised ground clearance, non-slip footrests, sturdy protection (metal radiator grille, hand guards, belt shield), and Adventure wheels clearly make the Canyon a road companion that’s not afraid to get dirty.

The Unique Riding Pleasure of the Three-Wheeler

Let’s be clear right away: the Canyon doesn’t try to imitate a motorcycle. And that’s a good thing! This three-wheeler offers a different feeling, more physical in corners, where you lean like on a snowmobile. And that comparison isn’t accidental: you can really feel the snowmobile inspiration in the riding position and sensations.

Corners are taken smoothly, stably, and safely. I was able to ride at speeds similar to those of a motorcycle without ever feeling in danger. And best of all, you don’t need to be an expert: the Canyon is intuitive. My only reservation? When quick avoidance is required, you need to anticipate a bit more than with a motorcycle or a car, as immediate manoeuvrability is slightly reduced.

Can-Am Canyon Suspension: SUV-Level Comfort

The Can-Am Canyon’s suspension completely surprised me! I had fun deliberately hitting every bump, crack, and pothole I encountered over the first 200 km… just to test it. The result? The three-wheeler’s suspension absorbs shocks like a champ. I didn’t notice any loss of control, even on the worst roads.

What’s more, for the more adventurous, the long suspension travel lets you tackle obstacles with confidence, while the non-slip footrests, combined with a handlebar riser, allow you to stand up for better handling on uneven terrain. You can tell this three-wheeler wasn’t built for city riding… but to escape from it.

Can-Am Canyon Onboard Technology: Much More Than a Dashboard

One of my biggest favourites from this test ride has to be the Canyon’s new 10.25-inch touchscreen. Ultra-readable, responsive, and fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, this screen offers a multitude of functions at your fingertips.

Integrated multifunction infotainment system, including:

  • Navigation system;
  • engine information display;
  • music and audio system;
  • phone functions;
  • and more!

Honestly, it’s worthy of a high-end car! This intuitive and fluid system makes every trip even more enjoyable.

Can-Am Canyon Transmission: Quick Adaptation

The Rotax 1330 ACE three-cylinder engine is a real pleasure to hear and use. It has that distinctive sound that adds to the riding experience without being intrusive. The 6-speed semi-automatic transmission took me a little time to get used to. Like many, I first went looking for a clutch or front brake… but you get used to it quickly.

Two ways to shift gears are available:

  1. “Raw” version: release the throttle between each gear. Offers a feeling of control but is a bit jerky.
  2. Smooth version: keep the throttle open and let the magic happen. And wow! The transition is almost imperceptible.

On the highway, it’s simply a pleasure. You feel glued to the road, with no vibrations or jerks. A smooth, stable, comfortable ride.

Comfort and Practical Details of the Can-Am Canyon

The Can-Am Canyon comes with several features that enhance rider comfort. I found the Canyon’s riding position extremely comfortable, even for long days on the road. But some details really stood out during my test.

Adjustable Windshield

The adjustable windshield pleasantly surprised me. Solid and well integrated, it provides effective wind protection and can be manually adjusted to your preference in seconds.

Storage Options With LinQ

When it comes to storage and customization, the LinQ system shines once again. The Canyon has 21 attachment points compatible with more than 40 accessories. These include the LinQ Nano, LinQ Lite, and LinQ 16″. You can also easily add bags, trunks, racks, or gear for your wildest adventures. For this three-wheeler, Can-Am put ergonomics on the menu.

A Slight Drawback: USB Port

I still want to point out one small drawback. The only standard USB port is tucked away in the storage compartment above the screen. In my opinion, it’s not the most practical location for plugging in a phone or GPS. I’d love to see a more accessible port in future models.

Lighting and Visibility: King of the Night

I rode in total “pitch-black” darkness, with no moon, and was really impressed. The Canyon’s powerful LED headlights illuminate extremely well. Whether on low or high beam, I found the Canyon’s lighting better than that of my car… and I don’t have an old model. Seriously, it’s a real asset for late-day rides or early morning outings.

A Few Final Thoughts…

I have to mention that other motorcyclists’ attitude toward three-wheelers can sometimes be a bit cold. Several didn’t even return my wave on the road. What a shame! But honestly, I don’t care! This vehicle gives me a thrill! The Canyon gives me sensations that no motorcycle can. For me, that’s all that matters.

What I love about the Can-Am Canyon:

  • The 10.25-inch touchscreen, compatible with Apple CarPlay.
  • The riding comfort and natural posture.
  • Automotive-quality suspension.
  • The feeling of being literally glued to the road.
  • The “snowmobile” spirit in the corners.
  • Powerful LED headlights that provide impressive lighting.
  • The rugged look and numerous LinQ customization options.

What could be improved:

  • Placement of some controls (horn too close to the gear shift paddles).
  • Accessibility of the USB port.
  • Slightly reduced manoeuvrability for emergency moves.

My Verdict on the 2025 Can-Am Canyon Adventure Three-Wheeler

The 2025 Can-Am Canyon is a vehicle you love to ride. Groupe Contant is giving me the chance to test their entire lineup this summer, so you’ll definitely see more articles coming! In the meantime, what I take away is that this three-wheeler fully embraces its difference. It’s neither a motorcycle nor a car… but it’s a freedom machine. The Canyon is stable, technological, fun, safe, and ready for any adventure.

Still hesitating? Go try it out at Contant or take a look at the Can-Am website. You might just fall in love with this quirky three-legged beast! That’s what happened to me… and I can’t wait to test the other models!
