SIDI Adventure 2 Gore Boot: Comfort, Protection, and Waterproofing Put to the Test

Botte SIDI Adventure 2 GORE-TEX disponible au catalogue Kimpex.

SIDI boots have been recognized for several years as one of the benchmarks in the motorcycle world. They are appreciated as much for their build quality as for their technology focused on performance and safety. Whether for the track, adventure, or the road, they stand out for their balance between protection, comfort, and riding feel. I was therefore very eager to put the Adventure 2 Gore boot from the Italian manufacturer to the test.

But before going into the detailed analysis of each aspect, it is important to understand that these boots were designed to offer a complete experience for the rider: precise foot support, optimal feedback on the controls, and robustness capable of withstanding demanding conditions.

In this column, you will be able to read my analysis of the following aspects:

  • Foot fit: fit, sizing, general comfort.
  • Feedback and riding feel, notably the precision of the feel on the pedals and controls.
  • Protection and durability of the materials and components.
  • And finally, true to my habits, I explain who the SIDI Adventure 2 Gore boot is for.

Each aspect will be followed by an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses to provide a complete and honest evaluation of the boot.

Fit and Comfort of the Adventure 2 Gore Boot

Examined in detail, the SIDI Adventure 2 Gore boot shows real quality!

When talking about SIDI boots, the first element to address is undoubtedly their fit. For a size 44 foot (US 10), the length matches the manufacturer’s recommendations. I have nothing to criticize on that point. However, pay attention to foot width.

Adventure 2 Gore boots are designed for a narrower foot. So, if you have wide feet, you may feel noticeable pressure in the middle and front of the foot, especially during the first rides.

Next, the break-in period of the boot also required patience from me. After my first 2,000 km wearing them, the boots were slowly beginning to form around my feet. In fact, they never truly reached the “slipper-like” level of comfort I had become used to. You can clearly feel that the design prioritizes support and rigidity over immediate comfort. The Adventure 2 Gore boot therefore requires a relatively long adjustment period before reaching a satisfactory level of comfort.

Finally, I found the inner sole very rigid. It provided little cushioning and comfort. So, if you are considering adding an extra insole to improve comfort, be careful to choose your size properly. You would probably be better off going one size up or, better yet, trying the boot directly in store to ensure an optimal fit.

Riding Feel and Feedback of the Adventure 2 Gore Boot

Easy to move around on the motorcycle, the Adventure 2 boots are narrow and not bulky at all compared with motocross-style boots.

Personally, one of the notable advantages of SIDI boots lies in the riding feel they provide. Although their narrow design may be a disadvantage for some motorcyclists, it becomes a major asset once in the saddle. Indeed, their slim profile ensures precise transmission of sensations. As a result, you will feel the brake pedal and shift lever very well, which promotes more precise and controlled riding.

This slimness also allows excellent mobility on the foot pegs. Indeed, I was able to adjust my position easily while riding. I could move my support points and find the right angle without feeling restricted by a bulky boot.

That said, unlike a pure motocross boot, the Adventure 2 Gore boot is not the most rigid. Obviously, that has its advantages… and its limits. On the one hand, more aggressive riders may find the support slightly softer. On the other, the boot provides better comfort and greater freedom of movement, whether for manoeuvring the motorcycle or walking.

The sole has good lugs underneath, which greatly helps traction.

As for the sole, it offers good grip both on the foot pegs and when you need to put a foot down in unstable conditions. In my experience, this added traction inspires confidence, especially during stops on slippery or uneven terrain.

Another appreciated advantage is lightness. The SIDI stands out for its contained weight, which can be felt after long days of 700 km to 800 km. Where some more rigid boots become heavy and tiring, the SIDIs remain pleasant to wear, both on the motorcycle and on foot, whether to fuel up, eat, or simply explore the surroundings.

Finally, one often underestimated detail: noise. Some motocross-style boots produce rubbing or squeaking sounds with every step, like an old, poorly lubricated door hinge. The SIDIs, although they produce a slight “squeak squeak”, remain rather discreet and tolerable in everyday life.

Protection and Durability of the Adventure 2 Gore Boot Components

In my opinion, this is where the Adventure 2 Gore boot reveals its true nature. As a lightweight adventure boot, it offers an interesting combination of functional protection and flexibility of use, without going as far as a full-motocross boot.

Protection

The SIDI Adventure boot offers protection that is clearly superior to a standard road motorcycle boot. Indeed, the structure and reinforcements on the front will protect you against direct impacts or light crushing. For such a lightweight adventure boot, it protects the toe area particularly well. Personally, that inspires confidence when riding off-road or on uneven terrain.

The SIDI Adventure 2 Gore boot offers good protection for the toe area.

At the ankle level, the boot offers some protection on the sides. Nevertheless, it remains rather moderate; the base remains relatively flexible for my taste. While this flexibility allows better mobility, it represents a greater safety risk during more serious impacts.

The Impact of Rigidity

When talking about the impact of a motorcycle boot’s rigidity, it is all a question of balance. On the one hand, a more rigid boot reduces riding precision and causes more fatigue during rides or in everyday “day-to-day” life. Conversely, greater flexibility increases the risk of twisting or injury in the event of a bad fall.

In my opinion, the Adventure 2 Gore boot sits in the middle of the spectrum, a versatile boot that favours freedom of movement without completely sacrificing protection. I would give it a score of 7/10 for its overall protection. By comparison, consider that a typical road boot would score between 5 and 6, while a motocross boot would receive a solid 10.

Durability of the Components

The design of the Adventure 2 Gore boot is based on materials that are generally solid and well assembled. I observed no breakage after my limited period of use.

However, I did notice certain details that show a slight weakness. The tightening buckles tended to deform slightly under pressure when I adjusted my boots. It is nothing dramatic, of course. Nevertheless, slightly longer buckles would provide more effective leverage, in my opinion.

The tightening buckles could be longer and more rigid.

Remarkable Waterproofing

Another strong point of the Adventure 2 Gore boot is its total waterproofing. To test it, I completely submerged it under water. After three minutes, the boot was still perfectly dry, without the slightest sign of water infiltration.

The Adventure 2 Gore boot passes the waterproofing test with flying colours.

In light of these results, I can confirm that it is perfectly suited to adventurers who ride in the rain, cross puddles, or venture into wet areas.

Who Is the Adventure 2 Gore Boot For?

After my test, it is clear to me that the Adventure 2 Gore boot is not intended for pure and hard-core motocross riders. It was also not designed for those who tackle extreme or very rugged terrain. Believe me, if your idea of fun on a motorcycle involves jumping bumps or taking on rock fields, this boot will not be your ally.

On the other hand, it is very well suited to motorcyclists who ride mainly on the road. Even if you occasionally take excursions on gravel roads and “light off-road” routes, this SIDI boot stands out as an excellent choice.

This adventure boot offers protection that is clearly superior to a classic road boot while remaining comfortable and functional for long riding days. The front of the boot, which rises high on the shin, offers an appreciable level of safety, especially against impacts from debris and flying stones. You will appreciate it if you ride near other vehicles, among other situations.

In Summary, This Boot Is for:

  • Road and light adventure riders.
  • Those looking for good protection without excessive rigidity.
  • Riders who want a waterproof, durable, and comfortable boot (once formed to your foot…) over long distances.
Gravel roads are a perfect environment for this type of boot. Comfort with good protection in the event of a fall.

My Verdict on the SIDI Adventure 2 Gore Boot

After several thousand kilometres and an in-depth evaluation, I can draw some interesting conclusions. Finally, I would describe the SIDI Adventure 2 Gore as a serious and well-thought-out boot. That said, it presents important nuances that will depend on the type of rider and intended use. Here is a brief summary of the strengths and limitations I observed.

Positive Points

  • Excellent overall build quality:
The materials are generally solid, well finished, and show the attention to detail characteristic of SIDI.
  • Protection superior to a road boot:
The frontal reinforcement and high protection provide a good sense of safety, especially for the shin and front of the foot.
  • Very good feedback on the controls:
Thanks to its slim profile, the boot provides an excellent feel on the shift lever and brake pedal.
  • Good grip and traction:
The sole offers effective grip on the foot pegs as well as on the ground, even in wet or uneven conditions.
  • Remarkable waterproofing:
Completely waterproof, even after prolonged immersion, which is rare in this category.
  • Featherweight:
Lighter than several competitors, it does not tire the rider over long distances.
  • Acceptable walking comfort:
Despite its initial rigidity, it remains functional for frequent stops, meals, or visits off the motorcycle.

Aspects to Watch

  • Narrow fit:
Designed for a slim foot, the boot creates significant pressure on the front of the foot for riders with wider feet.
  • Long break-in period:
You need to cover several hundred, or even several thousand kilometres, before reaching optimal comfort.
  • Average ankle protection:
The flexibility of the base limits protection in the event of a significant side impact.
  • Slightly flexible tightening buckles:
A small weakness in the fasteners can be felt when closing the boot.
  • Less rigidity than a motocross boot:
This lack of rigidity limits its use in extreme or very technical environments.
  • Slight walking noise:
The boot makes a noise when walking (squeak, squeak). Although tolerable, the noise is always present.

The good news! You can get the SIDI Adventure now in the Kimpex catalogue.
